About Us
Who are we?
The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Tele- and Radio-Technology conducts interdisciplinary research and development activities in the area of advanced digital and electronic technologies, addressing key challenges of modern economies. The Institute focuses on three strategic directions: energy transformation, defense and state security, and circular economy.
The Institute actively carries out its activities in three strategic directions: Energy Transformation, Defense and State Security, and Circular Economy.
Thanks to competencies in the fields of ICT, Internet of Things, sensor technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), the Institute develops advanced electrotechnical solutions, including Smart Grid systems, energy management systems (EMS), and tools for predictive diagnostics and real-time infrastructure monitoring. In the area of defense and security, advanced photonic, electronic, and automation technologies are implemented, including solutions meeting safety requirements at the NATO level (AQAP).
The Institute also supports the circular economy by conducting research and development projects in the co-design of electronics, automation, and digitization of technological processes, as well as technologies for the recovery, regeneration, and reuse of materials, including ultrasonic, vacuum, and electrothermal technologies. The Institute has implemented and continuously improves a Quality Management System compliant with the PN-EN ISO 9001:2015 standard. We invite you to cooperate

Step by step
History of Łukasiewicz–ITR
The roots of the Institute date back to 1929, when the Radio Engineering Institute was established. Over decades, the Institute evolved together with other research centers in new fields – from radio engineering, through microwave engineering, to advanced electronic technologies.
From 1956, the activities of the Tele- and Radio-Technology Institute focused mainly on the city of Raszyn and Warsaw. Over the following decades, in 1979, it was renamed the Research and Development Center for Radio and Television Equipment, and in 2002 transformed into the Research Institute. Today, the Institute is one of the leading research units in Poland, cooperating with industry and developing modern technologies, constituting a research and innovation backbone of the economy.
2019 – Merger with the Institute of Applied Optics prof. Maksymiliana Pluty (INOS)
Expansion of activities to include optical and photonic issues.
2019 – ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ŁUKASIEWICZ RESEARCH NETWORK
On 1 October 2019, we became part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network.
2007 – Merger with the Industrial Institute of Electronics (PIE)
Strengthening competencies in microelectronics and special systems.
1990s – Restructuring and new directions
– Overcoming the crisis of the electrotechnical industry.
1970–1990 – Specialization in electronics and materials technologies
Development of ceramic components, ultrasonics, and materials engineering.
1956 – Establishment of the Institute of Tele- and Radio-Technology (ITR)
As a result of the merger of PIT and CBT, with Kazimierz Cieliszak appointed as Director.
1937 – Launch of the experimental television station
In the Prudential building – the beginnings of television in Poland.
1934 – Establishment of the State Institute of Telecommunications
Merger with the Telecommunications Laboratory, headquarters at 11 Ratuszowa Street.
1929 – Establishment of the Institute of Radio Technology
The first research unit in Poland in the field of radio engineering.
Discover Ignacy Łukasiewicz
Patron of the Łukasiewicz Research Network – inventor, oil industry pioneer
Pharmacist by education – social activist and entrepreneur by passion.
Ignacy Łukasiewicz not only discovered the world’s first kerosene lamp – he laid the foundations of the oil industry, which changed the course of technological development.
Born in 1822, he was a pioneer of the oil industry, but his legacy goes far beyond oil. He created economic foundations that connected science with everyday life. He was a social activist, patron of progress, and an innovator combining science with practical application.
Why was he chosen as the patron of our Network?
Ignacy Łukasiewicz is a symbol of practical innovation, social sensitivity, and entrepreneurship based on values.
Choosing Łukasiewicz as our patron expresses trust in scientists and engineers who believe that technology can change the world for the better.
