Project title: “e-Neb – ultrasonic nebulizer with telemedicine functions for respiratory treatment and rehabilitation taking into account countering the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, in particular SARS-CoV-2”,
Project Objective:
The aim of the project is to develop an ultrasonic nebulizer with telemedicine functions that generates vibroaerosol, thermoaerosol for treatment and rehabilitation of the respiratory system. The most important innovation introduced in the product is telemedicine functions, enabling remote medical supervision of long-term treatment of lung and respiratory diseases (requiring further therapy and rehabilitation after COVID-19, with bronchial dilatation, COPD, cystic fibrosis). This will involve the nebulizer transmitting telemetry data to a database, based on which the doctor will be able to assess compliance and make adjustments to therapeutic and treatment recommendations. The collected data on the patient’s inhalations will simplify the remote analysis of the patient’s condition and eliminate the previously necessary direct, continuous doctor-patient contact. The e-Neb will be able to effectively support the daily treatment and rehabilitation of people requiring supervised aerosol therapy, where regularity of treatments is required, without direct supervision by medical personnel.
The project provides for the inclusion of end users in the development of the solution and takes into account the needs of people with disabilities including the visually impaired (voice messages). The e-Neb will use universal design and selected WCAG rules in the web application of telemedicine functions. The e-Neb will include technological solutions to improve accessibility and ease of use, and to support the independent performance of therapeutic inhalation and respiratory rehabilitation procedures by patients at home, without the assistance of medical personnel.
The design of electronic solutions controlling the e-Neb’s aerosol generation operation is envisaged. In the e-Neb, the drug will not be in contact with the piezoceramic transducer that generates the aerosol fountain, thanks to the development of a special atomization chamber that generates vibroaerosol/thermoaerosol using a drug vessel immersed in a coupling liquid.
