Project Objective:
The global electric power industry is seeking alternatives in the face of existing technological limitations of current silicon semiconductor-based devices. Technological advances are forcing the use of devices that are more energy efficient, operate at higher voltages and are faster. An additional element is the quieting of component operation and the reduction of temperature gradients in electronic circuits. Gallium nitride (GaN)-based semiconductors are a promising alternative because of their abilities to maintain higher energy density of the link, higher switching frequencies and increase power with low device loss. Compared to silicon-based transistors, GaN transistors can switch higher powers at higher frequencies, operate at higher temperatures and be more reliable while being smaller and cheaper to manufacture. The project responds to the demand of Polish companies for Polish GaN HEMT transistor technology for such applications as linear power supplies or induction boards. The aim of the project is to introduce the Polish GaN HEMT (high electron mobility transistor) 650V and 1200V transistor for power electronics systems for the high-power industry. Such a solution will give Polish industry the opportunity to introduce innovative indigenous technological solutions in the field of electronics into their own products and business products. This will increase the competitiveness of Polish enterprises in the European and global markets.
