Lukasiewicz Research Network – Tele and Radio Research Institute, as a partner in a consortium with the The company Meritus Systemy Informatyczne sp. z o.o. , began at the beginning of 2020 implementation of project No. MAZOWSZE/0033/19 entitled “Development of an innovative system consisting of intelligent sensors measuring critical parameters of rolling stock and a web application for processing, monitoring and analyzing data using artificial intelligence mechanisms” under the “Path for Mazovia” competition.
The aim of the project is to meet the needs of the rail and freight industry for ongoing condition monitoring and online management of rolling stock through the use of modern artificial intelligence technologies, tools and algorithms with autonomous sensor power. The system is to operate globally, i.e. across Europe and Asia, while the rail vehicle is in motion and while stationary.
A key advantage of the sensor system is the ability to inform rail carriers of irregularities in the operation and wear of freight car components before a major breakdown requiring lengthy repairs and overhauls. As a result, the System will result in reduced maintenance costs for rolling stock.
The System provides for the use of the following sensors:
- loading sensor,
- vibration sensor,
- Axial bearing temperature sensor,
- Wheel set temperature sensor,
- geolocation sensor.
The use of the aforementioned sensors will make it possible to reduce the cost of overhauling wheelsets, replacing brakes and bearings, predict in advance the likelihood of cracks on wheelsets, and reduce the risk of excessive wear on parts.
The main recipients of the Project’s results will be rail freight carriers and rolling stock owners.
Total value of the Project: PLN 9,597,625.00.
Funding value: PLN 7,952,665.00
The project is co-financed by the National Center for Research and Development as part of the “Path for Mazovia” competition.
