Purpose of the project
The purpose of this project is to conduct patent research, including analysis of the state of the art leading to the formulation of invention ideas concerning the construction of current and voltage transducers eliminating the defects of existing designs and then to develop application documentation in the UP and to subsidize the costs associated with obtaining patent protection of industrial property related to the project. Implementation of the project will contribute to achieving the strategic objective of the OPIE, which is the development of the Polish economy, and the specific objectives of this Program. The subject matter of the project relates to the 1st priority axis “Research and development of modern technologies” and fits into the thematic area concerning information and telecommunication technologies and intelligent, telecommunication and ICT networks of the INFO priority thematic group and the thematic area “Design of specialized systems” of the TECHNO priority thematic group. The envisaged undertaking of the production of current and voltage converters based on the invention and their implementation for operation in power substations is consistent with the assumptions of the POIG. The activities specified in the application coincide with the scope of support provided for in the Detailed Description of Priorities of this Program. The amount of planned expenses is justified and adequate from the point of view of the planned objectives and tasks in the project. They have been calculated observing the principle of achieving the assumed effect at the lowest possible cost.

Project description
The project concerns high-tech inventions. Its implementation will allow the development of current and voltage transducers together with autonomous measuring circuits powered by measurement signals, which will be used in electric power protection automation, in particular for overcurrent, sensitive earth fault and directional and leakage protection. The innovative value of the invention is due, among other things, to the use of advanced technologies of multilayer PCB circuits, techniques of advanced digital processing of measurement data and data transmission based on autonomous power supply from measurement signals. Implementation of the project will make it possible to significantly reduce the size of the transducers, increase their resistance to overcurrents of the measured current and expand the measurement bandwidth. In addition, the developed transducers, due to the absence of a ferromagnetic core, will have linear characteristics over the entire range of measured currents, which will provide measurement dynamics that will allow the realization in a single set of transducers of overcurrent, earth-fault and sensitive earth-fault and leakage protection. The inventions are to relate to the development of the design of the above-mentioned transducers based on a physical model. The subject matter of the invention will be verified by conducting laboratory tests of the made models and tests on the physical model of the medium-voltage grid before submission to the Patent Office. As a result of the tests, the design of the converters will be optimized for use in summing systems for leakage protection, which is a novelty in relation to the solutions proposed by leading companies producing such devices. The project envisages making prototypes of the measuring system for overcurrent, sensitive earth fault and directional protection with the developed transducers, as well as carrying out appropriate functional tests under real conditions. The developed measurement systems will also be covered by an invention application. The new types of transducers developed as part of the project, as well as the protection systems based on them, will create a new, lower-cost offering for the power industry. As a result, these protections will find application where, until now, there were economic barriers to their use.

Justification of the project
The project involves support for the protection of property rights for an invention characterized by a high level of innovation and requiring the solution of problems concerning the technology of manufacturing current and voltage transducers, measurement data processing and data transmission based on systems powered by operational measurement signals. The inventions will remove the disadvantages of the existing solutions of transformer-type converters characterized by large dimensions and high price. The limited dynamic range of the existing solutions required the use of separate transducers for overcurrent protection, sensitive earth fault protection and directional protection. Measuring transformer voltage transformers used so far are characterized by a very high power dissipated in secondary circuits, of the order of 10 VA, for the needs of modern measuring devices, and have a strongly limited bandwidth of transmitted frequencies. These converters retain their class of accuracy for sinusoidal network voltage of 50/60 Hz. Nowadays, there are very frequent requirements for accurate power measurement in the context of settlements between industrial plants or production departments made at the level of power switchboards. Another disadvantage of transformer converters is their considerable weight and price. Implementation of research tasks related to the invention will undoubtedly be ITR’s contribution to the development of national and global scientific and technical achievements in the field of invention.
