Project title: “Ultrasonic system with intelligent vibration systems for e-management of material joining processes adapted to the requirements of Industry 4.0”.

Purpose of the project and planned effects

The aim of the project is to develop and then implement an innovative, modular, scalable system for ultrasonic welding of materials meeting the requirements of Industry 4.0. The necessity of the project stems from the need to develop a new generation of ultrasonic welding systems and intelligent vibrating systems with e-diagnostics functions at the Applicant’s company. The results of the project will enable the Applicant to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the market, which are reliable and configurable ultrasonic welding systems that ensure high quality, aesthetics and weld strength.

These features of the system developed under the project will be achieved through four innovations:

1) e-Management of the ultrasonic bonding process,

2) electric drive to move the vibrating system in spot welding

3) Real-time stabilization of the amplitude of the sonotrode’s mechanical oscillations by means of feedback,

4) an intelligent oscillating system equipped with sensors that read its operating parameters and an e-identifier that memorizes its frequency characteristics, the latter two of which are world-class.

The implementation of the project has been divided into four tasks, the first 3 of which include industrial research carried out by the Applicant and the Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP as a subcontractor, and the last task 4 development research carried out by the Contractor. The project starts from Technology Readiness Level II and ends with the achievement of TRL Level IX. The results of the development work will be introduced exclusively into the Applicant’s own business activities. The final recipients of the project results will be industrial plants using ultrasonic material bonding technology for the production of: building materials, medical packaging, personal protective equipment such as dust masks, work clothes, food commodity packaging, components used in the automotive industry.
